Affordable Drama

Wanna know how to add wow factor to a door without breaking the bank?  I have one word for you: paint.  It's amazing what a couple of coats of paint can do.

With all the renos we've done over the course of the year, we couldn't justify the expense of replacing our front door so I decided to give our existing door a little makeover by painting it matte black.

Here's what the door looked like before: Front Door, before

And here's what it looks like now (sorry for the pic...I'll take better ones soon):

I kept the original brass hardware, which really stands out now against the black color.  I also added trim around the door while I'll paint in the same color as the walls (creamy white).  I'm quite please with how it turned out . The only thing I noticed is that by choosing a flat finish, dust and fingerprints adhere to the paint and I need to wipe down the door with a wet cloth often to keep it looking clean.  As much as I LOOOOOVE matte black, I think I may either buy a satin or eggshell finish and add a final coat, or add a finishing wax like this.
